Seriously my pet peeve. I cannot tell you how many gutters we come across that are ruining houses because they were installed sloping back to the house instead of away from the house. Let us save your house by adjusting your gutters. The first step to waterproofing your basement is to be sure that the water from your roof is moving away from your house and foundation. Nothing ruins brick and other siding materials quicker than moisture.

Fail: Tacky railing install in featured entryway of Dunlap home

When a railing is the featured element of your entryway and the builder decides to cut cost by transitioning some of the railing to closet rod style wood stair railing. The railing that should have been used was one that matched the post and spindle system rather than simple closet rod.

Fail: LVP Flooring Installation Layout

Here is a Floor installed without proper layout. Proper layout for LVP should be alternating 1/3rds or 1/4ths as to not show a stair step. Care should also be taken not to allow light pieces to be laid together or in a pattern other than random. Repetitive grains and patterns should be avoided unless desired.

Fail: Local Handyman Tile Shower Installer

So many things wrong here. First of all we do not install tile to water resistant drywall without the edges being sealed and latex waterproofing applied. Second of all we finish and paint the ceiling before installing the tile so that moisture does not get behind and pop the ceiling paint. If you are installing a tile shower please use a real professional tile installer.

Fail: Caulk in control?

First off caulk should be used on the exterior sparingly. Second, cheap caulk stains and yellows. This caulk should have only been applied to the joint and have been of a high stain-proof grade. Who gave this man a caulk gun?

Fail: Chimney Cap Failure

This chimney cap was left leaking which caused water buildup and eventual deterioration of the chimney block. Most contractors will just tuck point all cracks but in order to appropriately fix vertical cracks in block epoxy must be use to add back structural integrity.

Fail: Mosaic Tile Failure with grout nightmare

Not only did this contractor fail build out behind the mosaic tile to make it set plane with the wall tile, they tried to cover their mistake with grout then did not use a great grout release technique leaving a complete mess.

Fail: ****** and Sons Finest Work

This is a masonry wall of a million dollar home built by one of Peoria’s finest builders. The vertical brick joint varies widely as if the second string was put in to finish the top half of the wall. While this doesn’t constitute an imminent failure the workmanship is still very poor.

Fail: Deck Post and Railing Fail

Structural deck members cannot be attached to each other with just decking screws. Structural screws such as SPAX, GRK, or USP Structural connectors or fasteners must be used in order to ensure a trouble free and safe installation. To resolve this issue we slowly ratchet strapped the post into place as to not cause damage to the wood members then fasted the railing properly to the post. Using just fasteners to bring the post into place would have stripped out the fasteners and damaged the wood members causing a failed deck railing repair.
